ATI's work on Tax Expenditures: a presentation in the context of ECLAC's Regional Technical Workshop on Tax Expenditures
In the context of the upcoming Regional Technical Workshop on Tax Expenditures, scheduled for the 8th and 9th of November 2023 and held by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Addis Tax Initiative (ATI) will present its work to promote transparency around tax expenditures (TEs) and enhance their assessment and evaluation. This way, the ATI aims at supporting the discussion around tax expenditures in the Latin American region.
Among other efforts, the ATI presentation will feature a series of regional workshops and follow-up technical meetings on tax expenditures, which were launched in 2022 together with the Council on Economic Policies (CEP) and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS). This series is aimed at jointly identifying options for improving TE estimation and evaluation, enhancing transparency, and implementing evidence-based tax expenditure reforms, as well as building sustainable and long-term regional networks of experts on TEs. The presentation will also touch upon the ATI's ongoing work to strengthen the capacities of accountability stakeholders such as members of parliament regarding tax expenditures.
For additional context, you can access insights from the workshops in Lagos, Nairobi, and Manila, with a focus on West Africa, East Africa, and Asia, respectively. Earlier this year and as a follow-up to the work of the workshop in Lagos, the first ATI Follow-up Technical Meeting on Tax Expenditures took place in Accra.
