The Pacific Technical Assistance Mechanism (PACTAM) is an Australian technical assistance program for Pacific Island Countries (PICS). The program arose from the continuing shortage of skilled and appropriately qualified personnel to undertake a wide range of tasks in government agencies and in the private sector in the Pacific. The current direction of the PACTAM activity in the Tuvalu program is to support the priority areas identified in the Partnerships for Development with a strong focus on financial management and public sector reform. The total value of this initiative is $4.6 million over 10 years, starting 2006-07.
