Nauru Public Sector Reform

The Nauru Public Sector Reform Partnership will support implementation of Government of Nauru strategies for public sector reform, improved economic governance and financial management, with an emphasis on: strengthening the capacity of central agencies to deliver and manage national budgets that are aligned with national development policies and plans; developing and implementing policies that reduce fiscal risks and improve revenue generation, including from state-owned enterprises (SOEs); improving communication between the Government of Nauru and the community on policy development and implementation progress; and improving collection and management of development statistics, to inform policy and measure progress against key development outcomes. Under this initiative Nauru has established a new revenue office which is expected to generate an additional $1.5 million in revenue each year, including from SOEs. A new Financial Management Information System has been introduced to improve financial management and accountability and Nauru's media office has been established introducing radio, TV and print media services for the community. The total value of this initiative is $22.5 million over 7 years, starting 2009-10.
