Support to IMF Regional Technical Assistance Centre - AFRITAC South - Phase II

The Specific Objective of the project is to improve the design, implementation, and monitoring of sound macroeconomic, financial and fiscal policies, and enhanced regional harmonisation and integration, in regional organisations of the EA-SA-IO region and their member states.

The main expected results are:
1. Improved customs and tax policy and administration in the 20 member countries, to support trade, development, and regional integration strategies, and more efficient provision of public goods and services;
2. Improved Public Financial Management (PFM) capacity in the 20 member countries and harmonisation towards regional and international standards to effectively and transparently use resources;
3. A more resilient and sound financial sector in the 20 member countries, conducive to private sector development, financial inclusion, and regional integration;
4. Improved quality, coverage and timeliness of statistics in the 20 member countries, informing macroeconomic policy and regional convergence;
5. More effective and market friendly monetary policy and operations in the 20 member countries, consistent with regional monetary integration efforts;
6. Better implementation of the regional harmonisation objectives of regional organisations covered by the 11th EDF EA-SA-IO Regional Indicative Programme (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), East African Community (EAC), Intergovernmental Authority on Development( IGAD), Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), and Southern African Development Community (SADC)), and strengthened capacity of the regional organisations themselves.
