Nigeria joins the ATI
The Addis Tax Initiative (ATI) is excited to share to announce that Nigeria has joined the initiative, now uniting 33 partner countries, 20 development partners, and 22 supporting organisations.
But this is not the beginning of Nigeria’s journey with the ATI. Nigeria, represented by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), supported the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) as one of the local partners in the logistical organisation of the first ATI Regional Workshop on Tax Expenditures (TEs) for West Africa held in Lagos in 2022. In addition, Nigeria participated as a non-ATI member country in the mentioned workshop and its Follow-Up Technical Meeting on TEs in Ghana in 2023.
Nigeria is actively engaged in various areas to enhance Domestic Resource Mobilization (DRM), including the taxation of the digital economy, tax expenditures, and environmentally-related taxes.
The ATI warmly welcomes Nigeria and looks forward to a fruitful collaboration that will further expand the initiative's impact and outreach. Nigeria’s addition and the steady growth of the partnership highlights ATI’s role in fostering fair and effective DRM for sustainable development, enhancing policy coherence, and strengthening the social contract globally.
