UN DESA participates in the Addis Tax Initiative as a supporting organisation

The Addis Tax Initiative is pleased to welcome the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) Financing for Sustainable Development Office as its newest supporting organisation.

The Addis Tax Initiative (ATI) is pleased to welcome the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) Financing for Sustainable Development Office as an ATI supporting organisation. UN DESA is a key supporter of public administration and institutions with a clear focus on sustainable finance.  The ATI hopes that this collaboration will help to strengthen cooperation in tax and development towards domestic revenue mobilisation (DRM), by aligning the initiative with the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA) framework for financing sustainable development.

The ATI was initiated at the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in July 2015 with the aim of coordinating efforts to increasing DRM in partner countries. Increasing domestic public resources was identified as critical for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with support in the form of technical cooperation and financial assistance to partner countries necessary. With UN DESA participating in the ATI, the initiative goes back to its origin.

Supporting organisations contribute to partner countries’ DRM by participating in donor coordination activities and by contributing to the annual ATI Monitoring Report and online DRM Database. In this way, ATI supporting organisations help to ensure the comprehensiveness and timeliness of the ATI monitoring exercise and support tax development cooperation by identifying and sharing good practices.

The ATI looks forwards to actively cooperating with UN DESA and all other ATI supporting organisations, partner countries and development partners to catalyse domestic revenue for financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
