DRM portfolio and relevant changes to DRM support strategy

Belgium provides DRM support through a number of bilateral partnerships. Highlighted by Belgium is its public financial management support to Rwanda and a new portfolio of work in the Democratic Republic of Congo to support the optimization of revenue mobilization capacities through digitization, the strengthening of tax policy and tax administration, and the mobilization of civil society. The Belgian Development Cooperation pays particular attention to improving the capacities for DRM in natural resource sectors. In 2020, Belgium focused on the Artisanal and Small Mining (ASM) sector, as the sector is part of an informal economy that experienced growth over recent years, but was susceptible to fragilities exacerbated by Covid-19. Belgian support to the ASM sector during Covid-19 aimed to mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic, improve health and social protection outcomes, and formalize the sector for improved DRM.
